The multi-effect evaporator is efficient evaporative equipment, comprising of the heater, separator, pre-heater, condenser, pump, control system, working platform and etc. The rising film heater, self-circulation heater, and forced circulation heater can be added throughout the process, and various heaters are combined to form multi-effect evaporators, which are divided into the single effect evaporator, double effect evaporator, triple effect evaporator, quadruple effect evaporator, quintuple effect evaporator, sextuple effect evaporator, etc. The bigger the effect is, the more the evaporative capacity. Generally, the single effect evaporation capacity can be up to 3t/h, double effect up to 5t/h, triple effect up to 50t/h, quadruple effect up to 150t/h, quintuple effect up to 200t/h and sextuple effect up to 300t/h.
Large amount of steam is required for evaporation of a good deal of water in industrial production. Multi-effect evaporation operation can be adopted for reduction of the steam consumption. The operation pressure and boiling point of solution of after-effect should be lower than that of fore-effect. Therefore, the secondary steam of fore-effect can be brought in as heating medium, i.e., the heating chamber of after-effect becomes a condenser for secondary steam of fore-effect. Only the first effect evaporation in the production process needs consumption of live steam, and this is the operating principle of multi-effect evaporation. The last effects or subsequent effects of the multi-effect evaporator are operated generally in vacuum and the secondary steam of each effect is used as the heating steam of the next effect evaporator, thus increasing the utilization rate of steam and saving energy consumption.

A multi-effect evaporator requires the material temperature of 50-200°C, and is applicable to consecutive feeding and discharging process. Featured by high concentration ratio, a wide range of viscosity, good heat transfer effect, and large handling capacity, it is extensively adapted to evaporation of the highly heat-sensitive erosive materials of high concentration and viscosity. It is widely used for juice, glucose, starch, pharmacy, chemical engineering, pesticide, bioengineering, sewage treatment and other waste liquor recovery industry, particularly for volatile, highly heat-sensitive materials which are not prone to scaling.
